Slow Food-a-Thon is a big success

The Willmar Design Center is a local nonprofit focusing on revitalizing Downtown Willmar and making it a destination for all.
Looking for new ideas to improve the city, a group of volunteers enlisted the help of the Minnesota Design Team in 2005. The Minnesota Design Team specializes in helping communities plan their future through grassroots involvement, volunteerism and quality design. Out of these sessions and public meetings, the Willmar Design Center was formed and goals were established.

VISION:
To Renew Historic Downtown Willmar as a Social, Cultural, Government and Economic Center.
MISSION:
Renewing the Heart of the City
As a nonprofit, the Willmar Design Center engages volunteers to lead city improvements through three committees:
- Commons & Promotion
- Urbanize-Restore
- Connections
As a member of Main Street Minnesota, the Willmar Design Center is addressing projects such as the expansion of Becker Market, opening Litchfield Avenue to through traffic, extending the Glacial Lakes State Trail to downtown Willmar’s Selvig Park and the feasibility of building a downtown parking ramp for patients and visitors to Rice Memorial Hospital.
We work with a part-time coordinator, an urban planner and partner with many to improve the Heart of Our City. |
